Picture: Come join us: LCC Saints players Madeline Danacek, 15, Emily Rose, 9, Cleo Mayer, 11, Charlotte Bassil, 11, and Natasha Weiland, 10, at Liverpool Catholic Club Ice Rink on Friday.SAINTS (Club Press) - GIRLS are urged to participate in one of ice hockey's biggest global recruitment drives, at Liverpool Catholic Club Ice Rink next month.The second annual World Girls' Ice Hockey Weekend, organised by the International Ice Hockey Federation, will be held on Saturday, October 20, and Sunday, October 21, 9.30am-11.30am.Last year's event attracted more than 4000 participants.LCC Saints Ice Hockey Club secretary Cherine Weiland said the girls who play at the club are in boys' or mixed teams.''We would love to get a girls' team in 2013,'' Cherine Weiland said.Four of the club's most promising juniors, Emily Rose, 9, Cleo Mayer, 11, Charlotte Bassil, 11, and Natasha Weiland, 10, play in the Atoms under- 12s team.Madeline Danacek, 15, plays in the Saints' Midgets under 15s. Weiland said the girls love playing.The LCC Saints formed in 2004.Weiland said the sport's popularity has grown since since their inception, and they field junior and senior teams in the Ice Hockey NSW competitions.Club coach Tony Danacek said the girls have adapted to ice hockey quickly since starting as novices.''They are talented players,'' Danacek said.''The girls get hooked on the sport and are right into it.''
